Just read your article in the Wed Aug 8th Harbour City Star regarding the VIA train ride to Victoria. Great fun on the train, but your really need to stay in Victoria for two nights if you want to see Victoria at all, and unless you are willing to get up at 6am the next morning as the train leaves at 8am. I found going the other direction for a day trip to be fun, affordable and enjoyable for me and my family. We get on in Nanaimo and travel to Qualicum, where you have approximately two hours to enjoy browsing or lunch before the trip back to Nanaimo. The train arrives about two blocks from the main street and the two hour difference in arrival and departure is the most time in any of the stops along the way, other than Duncan – which would also be a nice day trip. The cost is about $30 each return. Happy trippin’ PS Gary’s Diner is great for a very large and tasty lunch – with decorations & pictures of old cars.

I am so behind on getting back – love the idea and eager to take the kids there. Once I we have done the adventure- we will write about it.
